Travis Scott has recently earned the I Am Hip Hop Award, further expanding his already impressive list of achievements. On Tuesday (Oct. 15), the honor was presented to him by Teyana Taylor and his collaborator on “Water (Remix),” Tyla, during this year’s BET Hip Hop Awards held in Las Vegas.

“I hail from a generation that they believed was disconnected from Hip Hop,” shared the UTOPIA artist in his acceptance address. “Each day, I strive to elevate the sound. Starting as a producer, my vision was not understood by many at the time, but I had a concept. I still possess that aspiration today—to push the sound forward and elevate everything, and I feel incredibly fortunate that we’ve come this far.”

“Growing up in Houston, Texas, we lack the abundance of billboards or major promotional campaigns that can help us along the way. I want to convey to everyone, regardless of origin, that it truly doesn’t matter,” Scott elaborated. “It’s the thoughts in your mind that can propel you to the next level and beyond. With genuine determination, real ambition, and supportive people around you, there’s no limit to where you can go.”

During his speech, the artist received heartfelt video tributes from collaborators such as DJ Khaled and Teezo Touchdown, alongside fellow Texas icon, Bun B. The founder of Cactus Jack Records was nominated for multiple accolades, including Hip Hop Album of the Year for UTOPIA, Song of the Year with “FE!N,” and Best Live Performer, among other distinctions.

Scott wrapped up his speech by expressing, “I truly appreciate you, BET, for actually acknowledging my work. At times, I feel unnoticed, so this recognition is incredibly meaningful.” The father of two also shared his affection for his kids, Stormi and Aire, whom he raises with Kylie Jenner.
