Simon Cowell has finally opened up for the first time since the passing of his former mentee Liam Payne … delivering an emotional message on social platforms.
The creator of “The X Factor” expressed on Instagram his feelings of being “deeply heartbroken” upon hearing the news about the vocalist — who Simon had invited to join One Direction back in 2010.
Simon addressed Liam personally in his heartfelt message, stating … “I am shattered. It feels hollow without you. I hope you understand how much admiration and love I have for you. Each tear I shed is a testament to the memories of you.”
Simon revealed it was “challenging to articulate” the depth of his sorrow … as he reminisced about their countless moments spent together.
He recalled Liam vividly, describing him as a “gentle, humorous, sweet, considerate, talented, humble, and determined” individual with exceptional musical abilities.
Simon reminisced about their initial interaction … which took place when the late One Direction star was merely 14, auditioning for “The X Factor” for the first time. Although Liam didn’t progress, Simon praised him for returning and auditioning again … a pivotal moment that paved the way for 1D’s formation.
He shared that he had met Liam last year, where they enjoyed a heartfelt reunion discussing their journey together … with Liam expressing how proud he felt about becoming a father.
He concluded with … “After departing, I was assured that you remained the gentle, caring boy I met all those years ago.”
In his closing remarks, Simon expressed that he would keep Liam’s loved ones and supporters in his thoughts throughout this challenging period.
Liam passed away in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on Wednesday after an unfortunate fall from the balcony of his third-floor hotel accommodation. A police spokesperson later informed The Associated Press that the vocalist “had leaped from the balcony of his room.” The investigation is still ongoing.
According to local authorities, Liam suffered numerous injuries from the incident, which resulted in “internal and external bleeding” that led to his passing.
While the toxicology results are still awaited, an emergency call made by the hotel staff emerged moments before his tragic passing, indicating that a hotel guest was “overcome” by substances and alcohol, resulting in a crisis.
Liam, only 31 years old at the time of his passing, is survived by his son, Bear, whom he had with ex-partner Cheryl Cole.
