Victoria Monét unveiled the highly awaited deluxe version of JAGUAR II on Friday (Oct. 4). This release includes 10 new tracks, featuring the previously released “Sex on Sight (SOS)” starring Usher and “We Might Even Be Falling In Love” featuring Bryson Tiller.
Opening the album, “D**kAtNight” showcases Monét embracing her sexual empowerment as a “newly single” woman — following her split from longtime boyfriend John Gaines, which was officially announced in September. Another standout on the album is the Thundercat collaboration “Don’t Sleep,” where she boldly stated, “I better see your a** at the GRAMMYs/ Bet I can make your girl drop the panties.”
“1900’s” is particularly notable for sampling Michael Jackson’s “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’,” whereas “Love Is Stronger Than Pride” pays homage to Sade’s 1988 title track.
Concluding the album, “The Greatest (Lovenotes Outro)” features uplifting messages and affirmations from Monét’s family, including her daughter, grandfather, aunt, and cousins, alongside industry figures such as D’Mile and even Beyoncé. The pop superstar expressed, “I love you. I cherish you. I stand by you,” offering her encouragement. “There have been moments where I’ve played your music, and it’s incredibly vibrant.”
Following the release of the album, the “Party Girls” artist began to trend on Twitter. One user remarked, “Victoria Monét just doesn’t miss.” Another user highlighted, “Victoria Monét is simply one of those artists who knows how to craft a fantastic song.”
Commenting on the outro from JAGUAR II (Deluxe), another listener stated, “This is the most Earth sign vibe, and I absolutely adore it.” Check out more reactions below.
Prior to the release of the deluxe album, Monét shared with Angie Martinez that she is not intending to embark on another tour for JAGUAR II unless it involves supporting another artist. Her last tour journeyed through North America and Europe before wrapping up in Brazil.
