DDG and Halle Bailey have called it quits. The rapper known for “Moonwalking in Calabasas” took to Instagram on Thursday (Oct. 3) evening to share the news himself.

“After considerable contemplation and sincere discussions, Halle and I have made the choice to part ways,” he conveyed through the platform. “This choice was difficult, but we think it’s the most suitable route for both of us. I treasure the moments we’ve shared and the love between us.”

“Even with the evolution of our relationship, our affection for one another remains profound and genuine,” DDG added. “We are still the best of friends and hold each other in high regard. As we concentrate on our separate paths and our roles as co-parents, we value the connection we’ve created and the wonderful experiences we’ve enjoyed.” At the time of this report, Bailey has yet to publicly comment on the breakup.

DDG and Bailey officially confirmed their relationship in 2022, which culminated in their first appearance together on the red carpet at the BET Awards. However, their romance has faced its share of criticism, particularly leading up to the release of 2023’s The Little Mermaid live-action adaptation, in which the singer and actress portrayed the lead character.

In a cover interview with Cosmopolitan, Bailey referred to DDG as her “initial deep, real love.” She shared, “That’s something I’m experiencing for the first time, and it’s, like, ‘Wow’ in your mind. It’s just explosive, a spark for creativity.”

“We’re best friends. Surprisingly, we’re quite similar, and we have a great time together. She has a vibrant and humorous spirit,” DDG reflected in an interview with REVOLT that year. “We can go beyond just acting like a couple — which we do since we show affection publicly — but outside of that, we can relax, and that’s the best part.”

The couple secretly welcomed their baby, Halo, towards the end of 2023. “I think it was more about people sending us negative vibes,” DDG explained regarding their choice to keep it private.

Musically, Bailey recently treated her fans to “Because I Love You” in August. The music video for the track, which has attracted 3.2 million views on YouTube so far, followed her March release, “In Your Hands.” Prior to these, she collaborated with Chloë and DDG on “Want Me” and a re-release of “If I Want You,” respectively.
