With his forthcoming album in progress, ASAP Rocky has kept himself engaged by releasing singles, music videos, and another collaboration with PUMA to keep his fans entertained. On Monday (Sept. 30), Dazed spoke with the New York-born artist about his latest collaboration with the shoe brand, which featured a weathered version of the Inhale sneakers among other car mechanic-themed apparel.

When probed about his music selection while crafting the collection, Rocky shared, “I was tuning into all types of music. I was vibing to my own tracks. I was enjoying some classic Miles Davis. I was checking out Portishead. I was into Stevie Nicks, and naturally, golden-era Hip Hop. You can’t skip on Hip Hop. I admire what some of these young artists are producing, like my guy LUCKI, who’s absolutely killing it right now.”

The “L$D” lyricist’s Don’t Be Dumb is set to release this fall. In preparation for its launch, he revealed the Pharrell Williams-produced track “RIOT (Rowdy Pipe’n),” alongside “HIGHJACK” featuring Jessica Pratt, and “Ruby Rosary” that includes J. Cole.

Tailor Swif,” which will not be part of the final album due to it leaking several years ago, also received an official drop in August. “If you all had a chance to check that out, [it] embodies and illustrates my design philosophy and approach,” Rocky disclosed to the publication. “When you have two distinct shoes that can coexist and be released simultaneously yet speak to two different realms — I believe that’s a tremendous achievement.”

Regarding his fourth studio album, the head of ASAP Mob stressed that listeners should “anticipate the unforeseen.” He mentioned, “I had the opportunity to take a step back and make some final adjustments before we officially share it.”

Don’t Be Dumb will follow TESTING. The 2018 project debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart and featured “Praise The Lord (Da Shine).”
