John Mayer deeply expressed his feelings regarding the New York Mets’ 2024 season — crafting a heartfelt note to show appreciation for the team and its standout shortstop, Francisco Lindor, who served as his motivation this year.
The iconic artist gathered his emotions a day after the Mets faced elimination against the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLCS … showcasing how profoundly the team affected him, transcending mere victories and defeats on the field.

Remarkably, Mayer recounted a specific incident during Dead & Company’s performance at the Las Vegas Sphere … where he suffered an injury to his finger, losing a significant portion of his nail during a concert — but it was Lindor’s fortitude that inspired him to push through.
“My immediate thought was to find a way to play using just the other three fingers,” he stated. “That’s what Lindor would have done, so that’s precisely what I chose to do.”
Naturally, Lindor played a pivotal role for the Mets during the closing phase of the season … even after sustaining a back injury in a matchup with the Philadelphia Phillies on September 13.
Mayer expressed his admiration for Lindor … emphasizing, “You could witness the commitment in his eyes, during his performances — it was even noticeable in his strikeouts; it was never a matter of ‘couldn’t,’ rather ‘didn’t that time.’
Mayer also imparted some words of encouragement to his followers … expressing gratitude to the entire Mets organization for the reminder to persevere, regardless of circumstances.
Mayer has previously shown his support for the Orange and Blue … donning a Lindor jersey during a performance at Citi Field in June 2023.

Although the Mets fell just short of clinching a spot in the World Series … Mayer remains hopeful that the players will reflect on their achievements from the season.
“Their remarkable journey brought the city together, fostering connections among families, friends, and reminding us that effort is the supreme force in realizing success.”
