Victoria Monét and John Gaines have formally announced their separation, as revealed by the former pair on Monday (Sept. 23), amidst increasing speculation about their relationship status. The two issued a joint message via social platforms, where they also dismissed any conjectures regarding infidelity or toxic interactions.
“With sincere intentions, we have genuinely been sidestepping a formal announcement regarding something as normal and intimate as love. Initially, we wanted to keep this private,” the statement began. Monét and Gaines shared insights into the challenges they encountered while attempting to “respectfully and privately navigate” their separate journeys.
“We both recognize that we have some essential personal development to undertake that is best done separately, allowing us to remain the best versions of ourselves for our daughter, [Hazel],” they added. “It simply didn’t work out, and that is perfectly alright. Our respect for each other remains intact, and we communicate with love in every interaction for the sake of our family. We have an amazing daughter to nurture for life, and that will always be our top priority. No relationship label can change that reality.”
Monét and Gaines wrapped up their message by stating, “We kindly request that you grant us the peace and space necessary to foster a secure and joyful environment as we strive to co-parent to the best of our ability for Hazel! We intend to maintain our family connection, regardless of how the public perceives our status, so please be understanding when you see us together with Hazel. We appreciate everyone for listening and hope to be in your positive thoughts and prayers.”
Fans were introduced to Gaines through Monét’s “Moment” music video. The track was featured on her 2020 album JAGUAR, which also included hits like “Experience” featuring Khalid and “A** Like That.”
This October, the Grammy-winning artist will unveil JAGUAR II (Deluxe), which is anticipated to bring 10 new tracks, such as “SOS (Sex on Sight)” featuring Usher and her collaboration with Bryson Tiller titled “We Might Even Be Falling In Love.”
