TMZ has verified that Harvey Weinstein’s health has deteriorated further as he has now been diagnosed with leukemia.
The disgraced producer from Hollywood is suffering from chronic myeloid leukemia, a form of cancer that originates in the blood-forming components within the bone marrow, as stated by the American Cancer Society.
Weinstein’s spokesperson, Juda Engelmayer, along with his attorney, Arthur Aidala, have refrained from commenting on this recent diagnosis but issued a combined statement, stating, “Craig Rothfeld, Mr. Weinstein’s recognized legal healthcare representative in New York, voices serious concern regarding the rumor and speculation surrounding Mr. Weinstein’s health condition.”
They further expressed, “It is both distressing and inappropriate that private, sensitive health matters have transitioned into a topic of public gossip. To honor Mr. Weinstein’s privacy, we will refrain from providing additional comments.”
NBC was the first to bring this information to light, mentioning that Weinstein is receiving treatment for this illness at Rikers Island, where he is currently detained while awaiting a retrial over his sexual assault allegations in New York City.
As previously reported, Weinstein had his conviction overturned on appeal after being found guilty in 2020 of raping an aspiring actress and sexually assaulting a production assistant. He was given a sentence of 23 years in prison by the judge.
However, Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg has opted to take legal action against the cases presented by two accusers, announcing in September a new indictment that charges Weinstein with a third assault against a woman in a hotel situated in lower Manhattan.
Moreover, in 2022, Weinstein was found guilty of raping a woman in a Beverly Hills hotel, resulting in a sentence of 16 years in a California prison. He is also beset by numerous civil lawsuits alleging rape and sexual assault.
In addition to his legal troubles, Weinstein has been grappling with a wide array of health challenges, including diabetes, hypertension, spinal stenosis, and excess fluid accumulation in his heart and lungs.
This past September, Weinstein was urgently admitted to the hospital for significant heart surgery after experiencing severe chest pains while incarcerated. During another hospitalization, he contracted COVID-19 and double pneumonia, necessitating additional medical treatment.
Now, with the leukemia diagnosis, it seems that Harvey Weinstein isn’t getting any reprieve.
