Numerous prominent figures in the music sector are resigning from their CEO positions, with notable examples being Kevin Liles of 300 Entertainment, Randy Goodman of Sony Music Nashville, and K Kaz Kobayashi from Warner Music Japan. Joe Budden suggests this trend could hint at impending challenges for many cherished artists within the Hip Hop community.
“Kevin Liles’ departure or dismissal signifies a greater upheaval in the music industry and a shift in consumption habits,” Budden remarked on his self-titled podcast on Saturday (Sept. 21), clarifying that Liles’ exit wasn’t connected to Diddy’s recent legal troubles.
“Many individuals are resigning or being let go,” he added. “If I were an artist signed to Atlantic [Records], I’d refrain from releasing anything. That’s how I jeopardized my career at Def Jam.”
Atlantic, which is home to stars such as Cardi B, Lil Uzi Vert, Lizzo, and Roddy Ricch, recently revealed further layoffs on Thursday (Sept. 19). This transition is in preparation for Elliot Grainge from 10K Project taking the helm on Oct. 1.
“The only individuals feeling secure there are those with a direct connection to Elliot Grainge. Otherwise, you might struggle to get your payments, budget, release dates, or artwork approved,” the “Pump It Up” musician concluded.
Budden’s observations are echoed by others as well. On Friday (Sept. 20), Meek Mill tweeted, “Why are all these CEOs resigning?” Comments ranged from “Bro, read the situation!” to “The labels are undergoing restructuring.”
In another segment of the “Joe Budden Podcast,” the hosts explored various topics, including Future’s featureless MIXTAPE PLUTO and the 76th Primetime Emmy Awards.
