The PacMan Jones Show
Jon Gruden‘s departure from the Raiders was anything but smooth … yet that doesn’t imply the Super Bowl-winning former coach harbors any negativity towards his past team in Las Vegas!
In reality, Gruden claims he not only follows the team closely but is still a staunch supporter of his former squad!
“You know my son [Deuce Gruden] is part of that staff. He serves as one of the strength coaches, so I monitor every play intently. I still cheer for them as if I’m part of the team,” Gruden shared with Pacman Jones and Evan Rosenblum on BetOnline’s “The Pacman Jones Show.”
It’s important to note that Gruden had to resign in October 2021 after some old but contentious emails were leaked. He hasn’t taken a coaching position since then.
Regarding the struggling last-place 2-5 Raiders, the experienced NFL coach has some thoughts.
“They’ve experienced excessive turnover, man,” Coach Gruden observed. “There have been numerous injuries, but people ought to recognize the defense has sustained several losses. The quarterback and offensive coordinator are both new; it’s a blend that’s yet to harmonize.”
Gruden also expressed his astonishment over the franchise allowing their star receiver to depart.
“I can’t fathom how you let Davante [Adams] go. I would have passed him the ball every single play. His tongue would have been dragging on the ground,” Coach Gruden chuckled … continuing, “I’m clueless as to where it all went wrong. It’s really unfortunate.”
Gruden also shared his insights on the status of rookie head coach Antonio Pierce … who although earned his position with a spirited performance after taking the interim role last season, might find himself on the chopping block as the team continues to falter.
“This is his inaugural year as a full-time head coach,” Gruden noted, adding … “There has been a significant amount of adversity.”
“I don’t believe in writing people off just seven games into the season. I think there’s a substantial amount of football left to play. They need to ensure the quarterback is performing consistently well; otherwise, it doesn’t matter who’s coaching the team. At present, the offensive performance is a struggle.”
The Raiders are coming off a defeat against the Rams … and the challenges won’t lessen this weekend. The silver and black will take on Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and the Chiefs in Las Vegas on Sunday.
