Pharrell Williams’ enchanting LEGO set titled Over the Moon will be available for purchase this Friday (Sept. 20). Consisting of 966 pieces along with two mini-figures, this space-themed collection is inspired by a poignant moment in his forthcoming biopic, Piece By Piece.
Prior to the release, the chart-topping artist attended a special event in Paris, where he engaged in conversation with LEGO’s Vice President of Global Brand Development, Alero Akuya, about his deep interest in space and the significance of representation in the world of toys.
“When I was around 4 or 5, I would gaze out of the window of the Atlantis Apartments where I resided,” Williams recalled. “Staring at the night sky, the bright stars sparked so many questions that my mother couldn’t really address — like how far does space extend, why does this star appear blue, and why is this star shimmering?”
He further elaborated, “To me, space symbolized this… vastness. It never seemed to have all the answers, which made it always feel so new. Each night could inspire a fresh inquiry if you chose to.”
Notably, the LEGO and Williams Over the Moon set introduces the most varied selection of customizable skin tones from the brand to date. Retailing at $109.99, the collection is anticipated to feature an impressive 50 heads, with 30 specifically created for this upcoming release.
“As a Black man from a disenfranchised community, narrating my story this way rendered it more relatable, allowing people to perceive it for what it truly is,” the producer remarked about Piece by Piece. The film is slated for release on Oct. 11, featuring cameos from notable artists like Kendrick Lamar, JAY-Z, Snoop Dogg, Justin Timberlake, and Timbaland.
