Kamala Harris‘ convoy was instrumental in the apprehension of a suspected intoxicated driver in Wisconsin this week.
According to U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Joe Biesk, the Vice President’s convoy was connected to an event on Monday evening in Milwaukee, where a driver was “traveling in the opposite direction on the highway” … heading towards the Presidential candidate.
The occurrence was recorded on video. Take a look … you can observe the driver getting alarmingly close to Harris’ convoy while navigating the wrong side of the road.
The Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office reported that the individual involved is a 55-year-old man from Milwaukee who drove an SUV against traffic around 8:20 PM on Interstate 94 when the Vice President’s convoy was travelling through the city. The highway had supposedly been closed to general traffic for the motorcade’s passage.
The driver maintained a leftward lane position while the entire convoy, which consisted of at least twelve vehicles, passed by before the final sheriff’s cruiser pulled him over.
The sheriff’s department indicated that deputies believed the man was intoxicated as an open beer container was reportedly discovered inside his vehicle.
The driver did not pass field sobriety tests, and the unidentified individual was arrested on charges of drunken driving and second-degree reckless endangerment — he remained incarcerated without bond as of Tuesday evening, according to WISN-TV. The arrest report indicates the man “almost collided with a vehicle in the Vice President’s motorcade.” The suspect later claimed he had no intention to cause harm to Harris.
The Secret Service representative noted … “We appreciate the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for their prompt action which enabled them to stop the driver and take him into custody for DUI.”
A fortunate outcome in what could have escalated into a tragic scenario.
