Kamala Harris‘ convoy was instrumental in the apprehension of a suspected intoxicated driver in Wisconsin this week.
A spokesperson from the U.S. Secret Service, Joe Biesk, verified that the Vice President’s motorcade was part of an occurrence Monday evening in Milwaukee, when a driver was observed “heading the wrong way on the highway” … driving toward the presidential candidate.
The event was captured on film. Watch it … you can witness the driver getting uncomfortably close to Harris’ motorcade while driving against traffic.
According to the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office, the individual involved is a 55-year-old resident of Milwaukee, who was operating an SUV in the opposite direction around 8:20 PM on Interstate 94 while the Vice President’s motorcade was navigating through the Brew City. The highway had reportedly been cleared of traffic for the motorcade’s safe passage.
The driver maintained a position to the left as the convoy, which included at least 12 vehicles, passed by — before the last of the accompanying sheriff’s cars managed to pull over the individual.
The sheriff’s office indicated that deputies suspected the man of being under the influence, as an open container of beer was supposedly discovered in his vehicle.
The driver did not pass sobriety assessments, and the unnamed individual was taken into custody for DUI and second-degree recklessly endangering safety — he remained incarcerated without bail as reported by WISN-TV by Tuesday evening. An arrest report claims that the man “almost collided with a vehicle in the Vice President’s motorcade.” The suspect claimed later that he had no intention of bringing harm to Harris.
The Secret Service representative expressed gratitude … “We commend the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office for their prompt action that enabled them to halt the driver and arrest him for DUI.”
It was a fortunate outcome in what could have escalated into a disastrous scenario.
