Lil Wayne revealed that being overlooked for the Super Bowl Halftime Show “hurt a great deal,” as he expressed in a heartfelt video earlier this month. Although it seemed like an ideal moment for the New Orleans artist to shine, producer Jesse Collins assured on Monday (Sept. 16) that the NFL holds no animosity toward him.
“We truly care about Wayne,” he stated to Variety in light of the prevalent discontent regarding the decision to feature Kendrick Lamar instead. He elaborated, “There are always predictions about who will take the stage. However, I believe we are poised to deliver an extraordinary performance with Kendrick, and I’m confident everyone will enjoy the halftime show. I know Kendrick is committed to putting forth a fantastic show.”
Collins also confirmed what many had already speculated: JAY-Z ultimately decides who headlines the Super Bowl Halftime Show. “It’s a choice that JAY makes. Since we joined the show, he’s selected the performer each year, and the results have been incredible. He has a knack for picking the right artist!”
Lamar, who collaborated with Hov on “B**ch, Don’t Kill My Vibe (Remix),” is set to perform at the Caesars Superdome on February 9, 2025. Fans are already speculating about his setlist, with tracks like “Not Like Us” and established hits such as “Alright” leading the discussion.
On September 13, Wayne shared his much-anticipated reaction to Lamar’s selection over him for the halftime show. “It shattered me, and I’m just trying to piece myself back together,” the Young Money Entertainment artist confessed. “But my goodness, all of you have supported me immensely. I’m grateful to all my peers, my friends, my family, my companions in sports television, and everyone representing me. I genuinely appreciate it. I feel as if I let all of you down by not receiving that chance, but I’m focusing on self-improvement and progressing.”
