Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday 2: Gag City Reloaded was originally set to debut on September 13. Regrettably, the highly anticipated project did not appear on any streaming services, and she offered little insight into its expected arrival. However, on the evening of Sunday, September 15, the “Anaconda” sensation announced her decision to forgo the deluxe edition in favor of a brand-new LP: Pink Friday 3.

“I’ve chosen to create an entirely new album,” she shared on Twitter, adding that she will still perform “Mamita” alongside the provisional track “Anxiety” during her ongoing tour. Minaj elaborated, “I’ll reveal the new release date within the next few weeks. The quality of the new music is simply too exceptional to be relegated to a deluxe edition.”

She later hinted at a possible pre-release treat: “Last night (Sept. 14), the tracks I recorded were just too iconic to ignore. I adore you all immensely. You know that and I’m aware you do. I’ll still provide you with something leading up to the official announcement, so no need to worry.”

Pink Friday 2 made its debut 13 years after its chart-topping predecessor. This extensive 22-track album featured beloved hits such as “Red Ruby Da Sleeze,” “Last Time I Saw You,” and “Super Freaky Girl,” with features from renowned artists like Lil Wayne, J. Cole, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, and Future, among others.

The project achieved an impressive 228,000 album-equivalent units sold, thereby positioning Minaj as the female rapper with the highest number of chart-topping albums — surpassing Foxy Brown by just one.

Regarding her decision to step away from Pink Friday 2: Gag City Reloaded, the Heavy On It founder expressed, “As my inaugural album as [Papa Bear’s] mother, it holds significant meaning for me for countless reasons that you may not understand. I’ve arranged every song in a particular sequence… while one or two tracks can be added without issue, incorporating five to seven feels a tad haphazard at this moment.”
