Some officers in Beverly Hills are expressing discontent over the possibility of Erik and Lyle Menendez being released… with a few going as far as condemning it as a political tactic.
Insider information reveals to TMZ that numerous personnel from the Beverly Hills Police Department – the jurisdiction where the crimes transpired – assert that Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón is attempting to score political points by facilitating the brothers’ release.
He’s lagging in the polls against his rival for the role, Nathan Hochman, and many officers perceive this as a strategic move to regain ground in the competitive landscape.
While officers do not outright dismiss the brothers’ assertions regarding their father Jose‘s alleged abuse, sources indicate they simply do not believe it justifies the horrific shotgun slayings of their parents.
Reports indicate that many officers at the BHPD were not on duty when the murders occurred, leaving them less familiar with the case and less emotionally invested than those who have been with the department longer.
Nonetheless, insiders reveal that the officers familiar with the investigation maintain confidence in their previous findings… asserting they performed their duties and that this has become a responsibility for the D.A.
Within a few hours, the D.A. is expected to announce his decision on whether to pursue the release of the brothers. Gascón has two options – to petition a judge for a resentencing of Erik and Lyle, or to request that the judge overturn their murder convictions in favor of voluntary manslaughter charges.
In California, the maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter is 11 years, but the brothers have already served nearly 35 years… meaning that if the judge agrees, they could be freed. The announcement is scheduled for a press conference at 1:30 PM PT.

It appears that some officers are wishing that D.A. Gascón refrains from requesting any modifications from the judge.
