Jeffrey Michael Kelly, the individual apprehended regarding the shooting at Kamala Harris‘ campaign headquarters in Arizona, is suspected of orchestrating a “mass casualty” incident, as asserted by prosecutor Neha Bhatia.
The Maricopa County prosecutor voiced these concerns in court on Wednesday, claiming that federal investigators revealed that over 120 firearms and 250,000 rounds of ammunition were found in Kelly’s residence following his arrest.
Additional items, including scopes, body armor, and silencers, were also located within the home during the search conducted by the authorities … along with a machine gun found in his vehicle.
Kelly has also faced allegations of attaching bags containing white powder to political signs lined with razor blades in Ahwatukee, a locality situated south of Phoenix.
Based on the assets collected during the search, Bhatia indicated that agents believe Kelly “was gearing up to execute a mass casualty event.”
Reportedly, Kelly initially discharged BB pellets towards the campaign office, which also functions as Tempe’s Democratic National Committee headquarters. He subsequently is alleged to have fired shots at the front door and window of the premises.
Bhatia revealed that the shootings transpired during the early hours of September 16, September 23, and October 6, asserting that Kelly “possessed firearms consistent with the weapons utilized” in those incidents.
Fortunately, there were no individuals inside the office building during the shootings … however, a spokesperson from the Tempe Police Department highlighted that the series of events provoked safety issues for those within.
Kelly — who had earlier been detained in 2022 for reportedly stealing campaign signs — faces various felony charges, which include engaging in acts of terrorism, unlawful discharging of a firearm, and attacking a non-residential building. Additionally, he is charged with misdemeanor criminal damage.
The judge has established Kelly’s bail at $500K and mandated that he be placed under house arrest if he manages to secure the bail amount and is released from jail.
