The Menendez siblings are edging closer to their possible release… however, L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón, who advocates for their resentencing, is dismissing accusations of leniency.
In a segment on “Good Morning America” on Friday, Gascón clarified his position after a significant announcement made the day before – stating that despite the positive development for Lyle and Erik, the murders of their parents, Kitty and José, were heinous acts and ethically, they have not been exonerated.

He elaborated that his advocacy for their release is premised on the notion that the brothers have transformed significantly since the tragic events 35 years ago, as they have devoted considerable time engaging in restorative activities while incarcerated.

Regarding the sentiments of the brothers, their lawyer, Mark Geragos, mentioned they are “cautiously optimistic” — marking a significant period wherein they can genuinely perceive a glimmer of hope ahead.
Geragos mentioned that this move is significantly overdue, emphasizing that his team has been in discussions with the District Attorney for the past 18 months.
The District Attorney submitted the formal request for resentencing yesterday after his announcement… and Geragos is hopeful that progress will be swift, expressing confidence that the brothers could be released by Thanksgiving.
A hearing has been scheduled for late November prior to Thursday’s announcement, so only time will reveal if the Menendez brothers will indeed obtain their freedom by that date.
