L.A. D.A. Hopeful Nathan Hochman Questions Timing of Menendez Decision as ‘Suspicious’

The District Attorney of Los Angeles County, George Gascón, aims to secure the release of the Menendez brothers from prison to gain an advantage in the upcoming election, according to his rival.

We had a conversation with Nathan Hochman, a previous Assistant U.S. Attorney General vying to succeed Gascón as L.A. County’s D.A., during “TMZ Live” on Friday … and he expressed that he finds the timing of Gascón’s announcement to be “extremely dubious.”

Hochman notes that a writ of habeas corpus was submitted back in May of last year, and a motion for resentencing was lodged in February … hence, if D.A. Gascón genuinely believed that Erik and Lyle deserved release, Hochman queries, why did he delay in supporting such a move?

NH argues that a series of unfavorable stories — like that of a double murderer who was recently freed after serving under four years — compelled Gascón to execute a desperate strategy to release the Menendez brothers.

According to Hochman, Gascón is misleading the public by asserting that he revisited the case due to heightened public engagement following a recent Netflix documentary … insisting that he has been aware of this new evidence for over a year.

As is widely known, Gascón conducted a press conference on Thursday where he declared his intent to request a judge to resentence Erik and Lyle from a life sentence without parole to a life sentence with the possibility of parole. With the time already served, the brothers would qualify for parole if the judge attached to their case… — William C. Ryan — concludes.

For what it’s worth, Gascón mentioned at the press briefing that the election does not influence his choice to advocate for their liberation.

The two might still need to present their cases to the parole board … however, defense lawyer Mike Cavalluzzi asserts that the judge has the authority to exercise his own judgement to alter the sentence.

Earlier this month, Hochman was reported to have a 30-point advantage over Gascón, as indicated by the L.A. Times — which means George certainly has a considerable amount of ground to recover.
