Tyler, The Creator returns with an impressive lineup for this year’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival. Slated for November 16 and 17 in Los Angeles, California, the event will feature headliners like Playboi Carti, Erykah Badu, Earl Sweatshirt, and more. Additionally, Tyler is set to release his new album, Chromakopia, on Tuesday, October 22.
The Flower Boy rapper has skillfully reinvented himself since embarking on his musical journey as a teenager. Similar to his inspirations, Pharrell Williams and Kanye West, Tyler adeptly shifts between the realms of music, fashion, and various entrepreneurial ventures. His festival has seen performances from iconic artists such as Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, and many others.
This year, up-and-coming talents like Jordan Ward, Laila!, and Tommy Richman will have the opportunity to perform next to established stars such as Playboi Carti, Erykah Badu, Kaytranada, Sexyy Red, ScHoolboy Q, and more.
Tyler, The Creator stirred excitement online by declaring that his upcoming album would drop on a Tuesday, breaking from the usual Friday release tradition. He shared during an interview with Nardwaur, “I think there’s a lot of passive listening [over the weekend]… If you release it during the week, that commute to work or school offers a solid hour or 30 minutes to really immerse yourself and listen properly.”
He has now delivered on that promise by launching his project on a Tuesday, a rarity since the era of physical CDs. Tyler joins a cadre of artists like Drake, EARTHGANG, Lamar, and J. Cole, who are boldly defying conventions by opting for unconventional release strategies or using platforms beyond traditional DSPs.
J. Cole’s latest track “Port Antonio” remains unavailable on DSPs, while some diss tracks between Lamar and Drake are exclusive to YouTube and Instagram. The music landscape is evolving, and fans are taking note.
