Kendrick Lamar’s forthcoming halftime show for Super Bowl LIX is generating immense excitement. With his hit single “Not Like Us” managing to dominate charts throughout the year, the experienced rap artist is ready for a thrilling showcase on the biggest stage in music.

Upon the NFL’s announcement that Super Bowl LIX would take place in New Orleans, numerous fans speculated that Lil Wayne was an obvious pick to represent his hometown. Following the NFL and Roc Nation’s revelation that Lamar would be the main performer, discussions erupted across social media regarding whether the “Lollipop” rapper had been overlooked for this chance.

Recently, during a College GameDay segment, Cam Newton—who has joined ESPN as a commentator—was queried about the impending performance. While appearing alongside Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe on “First Take,” he shared that although he thought the NFL’s choice may not have been the best, he felt confident that Lamar would deliver an outstanding performance.

Expounding on his perspective, Newton remarked, “One brilliant aspect they executed in Los Angeles was highlighting the West Coast culture. And with such a significant event like the Super Bowl taking place in New Orleans, why not feature Lil Wayne? Why not Master P? Why not Cash Money?”

The former NFL MVP maintained his stance even when a solitary fan in the audience expressed dissent. His views resonate with many who were hoping to see the Young Money CEO performing in the beloved city of his roots.

Lil Wayne expressed his discontent with the initial announcement on his social media, sharing his feelings about not landing the exciting role. He stated, “Your words transformed into support and lifted me when I sought to retreat,” following an avalanche of encouragement from his fans after the news broke that the Compton-born artist would be headlining. Many are speculating whether Lamar might invite Wayne as a special guest, given his history of praising the iconic rapper.
