Jay Johnston — recognized for his role in the animated series “Bob’s Burgers” — appears to be facing a sentence of slightly more than a year in federal prison due to his participation in the Capitol upheaval on January 6, 2021, in Washington, D.C.
The entertainer’s attorney informed NBC News that Jay was handed a sentence on Monday totaling 12 months and one day in federal custody. As previously reported, Jay admitted guilt in July to a charge of obstructing law enforcement during a civil disturbance.
Facing a potential five-year sentence, Jay was detained in California last summer, initially facing four charges, three of which were later dropped.

Johnston was identified as having participated in the riot due to a social media post released by the FBI in March 2021, where the authorities asserted that Jay “was involved with other rioters in a collective assault” against police officers at the Capitol entrance and further “assisted in taking a stolen police riot shield away.”
Via text messages, Jay reportedly confessed to an acquaintance that he had been present during the events of January 6, according to previously filed court documents retrieved by TMZ.
Alongside his prison sentence, Jay also lost his role in “Bob’s Burgers” due to the insurrection … he had voiced the character Jimmy Pesto on the animated program but was dismissed in 2021 following a decade-long tenure on the show.
