Major advancement for Erik and Lyle Menendez … the Los Angeles County District Attorney is advocating for a pathway to liberty that might result in the brothers’ release within weeks.
The L.A. County District Attorney George Gascón recently expressed his “strong” endorsement of the Menendez brothers’ plea for clemency.
TMZ first broke the news … The attorney for Erik and Lyle, Mark Geragos, submitted legal paperwork on Tuesday to California Governor Gavin Newsom, requesting clemency for his clients.
This is crucial, as over the weekend, Newsom released a podcast in which he stated, “This is evidently some new compelling evidence that has surfaced” … mentioning, among other things, a letter that Erik wrote to his cousin that strongly implied his father was abusing him just months prior to the homicides. Newsom also indicated that he frequently grants clemency around the Thanksgiving holiday.

The essential point here … if Newsom provides clemency, a court hearing would not be necessary. The brothers would be released immediately.
Gascon now remarks, “I am wholeheartedly in favor of clemency for Erik and Lyle Menendez … They have both dedicated 34 years to their sentences while pursuing education and initiating new programs aimed at supporting the rehabilitation of fellow inmates.”

TMZ also reported … if clemency is not granted, a court appearance is scheduled for December 11, during which Geragos will petition the judge to revise the convictions from murder to voluntary manslaughter. Given that the brothers have already served more than three times the maximum sentence for voluntary manslaughter, they would leave the court as free individuals.
