Shawn Mendes has received accolades from Colorado Governor Jared Polis… after he openly discussed his journey of exploring his sexuality with a concert audience there.
The artist known for “Treat You Better” was on stage at the famed Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Colorado on Monday when he addressed ongoing questions regarding his sexuality, commenting that it’s an evolving process for him.
For years, Shawn Mendes has experienced pressure and bullying about discussing his sexuality, even before turning 18.
He touched on it this evening at his show at Red Rocks.
“The absolute reality of my life and sexuality is that, man, I’m just figuring it out like everyone else. I don’t have the answers… pic.twitter.com/HhUYucRKoc

Governor Polis, who is the first openly gay governor of Colorado, expressed to TMZ that, “Red Rocks is an incredible venue to share your truth. Colorado stands for a place where everyone, regardless of their identity, can love freely and be their true selves.”
Shawn garnered enthusiastic applause from the audience, and Gov. Polis remarked that Shawn chose the perfect location to share his feelings, as “he was embraced by compassionate Coloradans who uphold his right to be precisely who he is.”

Following the heartfelt performance at Red Rocks, Shawn made his way back to Los Angeles… a city that’s also known for its inclusivity… where he was spotted sharing a warm hug with his friend and music collaborator, Mike Sabath.
Shawn enjoys a brief hiatus from his performances before heading abroad for shows… and it appears he’s feeling quite content after sharing his truth.
