Angel Reese has become Hip Hop’s celebrated WNBA player — both in and beyond the game. On Thursday (Oct. 17), during a chat with The Wall Street Journal, the power forward for the Chicago Sky reflected on some key moments from her career, including her experience sitting next to Cardi B at the Met Gala last May.

“It was my birthday. I had morning practice. They wished me a happy birthday, I got my hair and makeup done on the flight, and then someone flew in from Paris with my dress,” Reese recounted to the publication about her appearance at the prestigious event. She donned a mint green gown from 16Arlington, crafted by the brand’s mastermind, Marco Capaldo.

“The queue was long and wild to ascend the stairs, and my table was fantastic. I was seated with my girl Cardi. I connected with so many incredible individuals, and they recognized me, demonstrating genuine support for women’s sports,” the Maryland native reminisced. She and the New York rapper already had a rapport from their collaboration in Latto’s “Put It On Da Floor Again” music video.

“They were genuinely proud of me,” Reese added. “I told them, ‘I appreciate y’all, and y’all are proud of me.’ It’s incredible to witness my influence both on and off the court, extending beyond just sports.”

The athlete has previously expressed her desire to have the Invasion of Privacy artist appear on her podcast, “Unapologetically Angel.” “I’m really eager to invite guests from various sectors on the show — sports, music, entertainment, business, creators, and more,” she shared with Complex this past August. “I’m definitely planning to feature my girls [Megan Thee Stallion], Latto, and Cardi B.”

Earlier this month, Vogue announced the co-chairs for the 2025 Met Gala: ASAP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, Pharrell Williams, LeBron James, and Anna Wintour. The theme for this year’s event will be “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” particularly highlighting Black dandyism.
