Jay Johnston, recognized primarily for his role in the animated series “Bob’s Burgers,” is set to face a little over a year in prison due to his participation in the Capitol insurrection that took place on January 6, 2021, in Washington, D.C.
The comedian’s attorney informed NBC News that Jay was sentenced on Monday to a term of 12 months and one day in a federal penitentiary. As previously reported, Jay admitted guilt in July to a charge of impeding law enforcement during a civil upheaval.
Jay, who was at risk of receiving a five-year sentence in federal custody, was apprehended in California last summer and initially charged with four counts, though three of these were subsequently dismissed.

Johnston was identified as a participant in the riot due to a social media post highlighted by the FBI in March 2021, with federal authorities asserting that Jay “engaged with other rioters in a collective attack” on law enforcement officers stationed at the Capitol’s entrance, and also “assisted in carrying away a stolen police riot shield.”
Jay even communicated to a friend via text that he had participated in the January 6 incident, as indicated by previously submitted court documents acquired by TMZ.
Apart from his legal repercussions, Jay also lost his position on “Bob’s Burgers” as a consequence of the insurrection … he provided the voice for Jimmy Pesto in the animated series but was dismissed in 2021 after being part of the show for a decade.
