Dwyane Wade‘s recent statue is facing criticism not only from online critics … but also from an ex-NBA player — with Chris Webber sharing with TMZ Sports that he thinks the tribute resembles Morpheus!
We encountered C Webb at LAX on Tuesday — and when we inquired about the Wade statue that was unveiled at the Kaseya Center in Miami this past Sunday … he couldn’t help but mock the piece.
He expressed that he believes it resembles Laurence Fishburne‘s role in “The Matrix” … or even Chris Rock‘s Pookie from “New Jack City.”
“It also resembles the lead vocalist from ‘The Five Heartbeats‘ when he was performing,” Webber quipped with a chuckle.
Webber, however, made it clear he wasn’t throwing shade at Wade … in fact, he stated he considers Dwyane as his No. 3 shooting guard of all time — just following Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant.
Yet, he was definitely up for teasing the new creation — and he commended Wade for being able to do a little bit of the same.
As for how he believes it all could’ve been sidestepped — he suggested that statue creators spend a little more time with the individuals they are sculpting … and not solely rely on photographs.
If Marquette University is contemplating crafting a Wade statue in the future … they should take notes!
