Cynthia Erivo is fed up with the fan-made edits related to the forthcoming “Wicked” film, notably a trending image of the altered movie poster.
The actress, portraying Elphaba in the highly-anticipated “Wicked” movie, released a statement on Instagram on Wednesday after fans took liberties to modify the film’s poster to resemble the one used for the Broadway version.
Take a look … the revised image casts a shadow over Cynthia’s eyes, mimicking the effect of the Wicked Witch’s broad-brimmed hat, much like in the original illustration.
While admirers seemed pleased with their rendition, Cynthia made it abundantly clear that she found it unflattering, describing the unauthorized poster as “the wildest, most offensive thing.”
She addressed the image in light of other popular memes, including an AI-generated depiction of Cynthia in a confrontation with her co-star Ariana Grande, and the circulating query, “is your p***y green.”
She remarked … “None of this is humorous. None of it is charming. It belittles me. It belittles us.”
Regarding critics who wished for the movie poster to mirror Broadway’s illustrated image … Cynthia asserted that she’s “a real-life person,” who made a deliberate choice with her pose for the teaser.
She emphasized … “Our poster is a tribute, not a replica; to modify my features and conceal my eyes is tantamount to erasing me. And that’s incredibly hurtful.”
Cynthia further posted the film’s original poster to her Instagram Stories … to provide a “cleansing of the palette.”
Even with Cynthia’s discontent, “Wicked” is poised to be one of the fall’s most “Popular” films … Fandango reveals that the movie currently ranks as the No. 2 pre-seller this year, only behind Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
