Cynthia Erivo has reached her limit regarding the fan-made edits linked to the forthcoming “Wicked” film … specifically, one trending image featuring the altered movie poster.
The performer, portraying Elphaba in the eagerly awaited “Wicked” adaptation, released a message on Instagram Wednesday after fans took it upon themselves to adjust the film’s poster to resemble the one employed for the Broadway version.
Take a look … the revised image casts a shadow over Cynthia’s eyes, created by the Wicked Witch’s large-brimmed hat, just as depicted in the original artwork.
Though fans seemed delighted with their creation, Cynthia expressed her displeasure … labeling the unofficial poster as “the most outrageous, and hurtful representation.”
She addressed the image following a series of other trending memes, which featured an AI interpretation of Cynthia in a supposed fight with her co-star Ariana Grande, along with the circulating question, “is your p***y green?”
She further elaborated … “This is not amusing. None of it is endearing. It undermines me. It undermines all of us.”
Regarding those who desired the movie poster to mirror Broadway’s illustrated design … Cynthia staunchly defended that she is “a real-life individual,” whose choice of pose for the teaser was intentional.
She emphasized … “Our poster pays tribute, not copies; altering my image and obscuring my eyes erases my identity, and that is profoundly distressing.”
Cynthia proceeded to share the official film poster once more on her Instagram Stories … intending to “refresh your perspective.”
Despite Cynthia’s discontent, “Wicked” is poised to be one of the season’s most “Popular” films … with Fandango confirming it as the second-highest film in pre-sales for the year, only behind Marvel’s “Deadpool & Wolverine.”
