DaBaby’s comeback journey has been lengthy, particularly after his contentious remarks at the 2021 Rolling Loud festival. He began regaining traction with the track “SHAKE SUMN” alongside its remix featuring Sexyy Red. Most recently, in September, the North Carolina artist released his first project in over two years, titled HOW TF IS THIS A MIXTAPE?

During a conversation on “The Breakfast Club” on Friday (Oct. 4), DaBaby shared insights about his revival and the “murky” dynamics surrounding playlisting. “That s**t is manipulated. Someone pulled the lever,” he commented regarding his exclusion from festival rosters. “I need to find my way through that however I can.”

“Concerning everything else, like media engagements or how I promote my music, I really reached a phase where I started losing my passion for the craft of making and releasing music due to the industry politics and all that it entails,” DaBaby continued. “It felt like, ‘This isn’t even something I take pleasure in anymore.’ I transitioned from being an artist to a politician in a matter of hours.”

The project HOW TF IS THIS A MIXTAPE? features 14 tracks and boasts no guest appearances. Some of its highlight tracks include “Gimme A Reason,” “Carry It On,” and “Reesha Roulette (Teach Me)” — an homage to Yung Miami’s beverage-themed card game for “Caresha Please.”

In another part of the discussion, DaBaby reflected on his split with Stunna 4 Vegas. “He chose to take a different direction with his path. I’m pleased for him because whatever choice he’s making is the one he prefers,” the KIRK artist remarked. “No one wants to see him succeed more than I do.”

The two musicians have previously teamed up on tracks such as “Billion Dollar Baby,” “Animal,” “Ashley,” and “No Dribble.” Since parting ways with DaBaby, Stunna’s career has continued to progress. Earlier this year, he released 4Ever and recently presented “Passenger Princess (Jibbitz)” featuring Monaleo, who is also his son’s mother.
