DaBaby has indeed faced a challenging road to redemption following his controversial remarks made during the 2021 Rolling Loud festival. He began regaining momentum with “SHAKE SUMN” and the remix featuring Sexyy Red. In September, the North Carolina artist premiered his first collection in more than two years, HOW TF IS THIS A MIXTAPE?

On Friday (Oct. 4), in an interview on “The Breakfast Club,” DaBaby shared insights into his resurgence and the “cloudy” intricacies of playlisting, among other topics. “That s**t is manipulated. Someone pressed the button,” he remarked about his exclusion from festival lineups. “I need to find my way through that, however I make it through.”

“As for everything else, especially regarding media and how I promote my music, I realized I was drifting away from my passion for creating and releasing music because of the politics and all that comes with it,” DaBaby elaborated. “[It felt like], ‘This isn’t something I find joy in any longer.’ I transitioned overnight from being an artist to a politician.”

HOW TF IS THIS A MIXTAPE? features 14 tracks and includes no collaborations. The standout tracks are “Gimme A Reason,” “Carry It On,” and “Reesha Roulette (Teach Me)” — a reference to Yung Miami’s drinking card game for “Caresha Please.”

In another part of the discussion, DaBaby reflected on his split with Stunna 4 Vegas. “He took a different path in his journey. I’m pleased for him because whatever he’s doing, that’s what he prefers,” stated the KIRK creator. “There ain’t no one that wants to see him succeed the way I wanted him to succeed.”

The duo had previously teamed up on songs like “Billion Dollar Baby,” “Animal,” “Ashley,” and “No Dribble.” Since they have gone their separate ways, Stunna’s career hasn’t entirely diminished. He launched 4Ever earlier this year and recently released “Passenger Princess (Jibbitz)” alongside Monaleo, who is also the mother of his child.
