Doechii was given the highest endorsement by Kendrick Lamar on Thursday (Oct. 17).
The artist from Compton shared a CashApp advertisement featuring the “What It Is (Block Boy)” performer on Instagram, accompanied by a picture of her Alligator Bites Never Heal cover alongside the remark, “The hardest out.”
“Thank you, Dot. You [are] the best,” Doechii responded with appreciation. In a distinct Story, she wrote, “Receiving your accolades while you can enjoy them >>>.” The TDE artist also shared a snippet of herself playfully throwing punches on TikTok.
Despite not having officially collaborated yet, Lamar and Doechii discussed it being “the ambition” during her interview on “The Joe Budden Podcast” last month. “I don’t take anything for granted, and I certainly don’t presume I’m entitled to a Kendrick collaboration, but I would genuinely cherish that,” the Florida-born artist conveyed. “Eventually, when my debut project is ready, I’ll probably ask Top [Dawg] if he could reach out to Kendrick, or I might approach Kendrick myself and see what transpires.”
She elaborated, “To be honest: I feel that I don’t currently have the right track for such an opportunity. I believe I would need to approach it a certain way, and right now, I don’t think I’m prepared for that.”
Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal dropped in late August, garnering enthusiastic feedback from fans and numerous TDE peers. The collection of 19 tracks arrived without any collaborations and includes contributions from producers like Devin Malik, Childish Major, Kal Banx, and Super Miles, among others. Highlight tracks featured include “CATFISH,” “BOOM BAP,” and “NISSAN ALTIMA”—the latter also released with a music video featuring Ab-Soul, Isaiah Rashad, and Jay Rock.
The “Alligator Bites Never Heal Tour” commenced earlier this month at The Loft in Atlanta. Doechii is set to perform in Berlin on Monday (Oct. 21), with additional shows in Amsterdam, Paris, London, Los Angeles, Tampa, and more.
In the meantime, Lamar unveiled a surprise track last month. This marked his first music release since the video for “Not Like Us” was launched in July.
