Renowned luxury creator Don C is celebrated for his exquisite Just Don line, which has become a cornerstone in the realms of fashion and Hip Hop. In a recent episode of the “Ghetto Runways” podcast, he unveiled an untold narrative regarding how he and his companions, cultural trailblazers Virgil Abloh and the artist previously known as Kanye West, first crossed paths.
John Monopoly, widely recognized as West’s current manager, has played a pivotal role in elevating many of today’s prominent cultural figures. During his conversation, Don C remarked, “John introduced me and connected Ye with Virgil… When I was about 14 or 15, this impressive guy John Monopoly was saying, ‘Look, I have a cousin who’s into fashion. If he contributes something to what you’re doing, Ye, it’s going to elevate you both to another echelon.’”
One enthusiast shared, “John deserves recognition; without him, we might not have witnessed the brilliance of this collective.” Another chimed in, “He’s been a pioneer… keep pushing forward, Big John… the pathways are manifesting.”
While Monopoly is modest about his achievements, the fact that he linked influential figures like Don C, Ye, Abloh, and Ibn Jasper is nothing short of remarkable. Don C also recounted the infamous crew photograph that was humorously referenced in one of Comedy Central’s most beloved episodes of South Park.
This formidable collective is credited with the inception of Fear of God, Off-White, Yeezy, Just Don, among other labels that have significantly influenced youth culture’s fashion since Ye’s rise in the music industry.
Earlier this year, Monopoly gained attention when he reached out to Kai Cenat to address concerns related to Ye, prompted by Cenat’s feedback on the garments he had received. The dialogue began heated but ultimately settled down as both parties communicated their perspectives.
