Drake appears to be embarking on a new phase of retribution following the emergence of a video where he addresses past associates who have recently betrayed him. While he refrained from naming anyone directly, fans quickly speculated that he was alluding to Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, A$AP Rocky, Rick Ross, and others, drawing from his history of rap conflicts.
The artist behind “God’s Plan” has always hinted that October is when things turn intense for his rivals. Renowned for his subtly confrontational style, on Saturday night (Oct. 5), he made his veiled remarks clear during a “Nostalgia” party in Toronto, hosted by media figure Tyrone Edwards.
In the footage, while he shared numerous thoughts, his most impactful remark came when he noted, “Individuals you believed were allies, or those you thought were close, might just flip on you.”
A fan reacted to the video, saying, “True greatness will always overshadow the negativity. 15 years of supremacy!” Another added, “It’s part of the game that comes with wealth and influence. He noticed it back during the Certified Lover Boy era, which is why he created that ‘Fair Trade’ track.” In the 2021 collaboration with Travis Scott, Drake raps, “I’ve been losing friends and discovering tranquility, but honestly, that sounds like a fair exchange to me.”
Drake has spoken candidly about his feelings of unease since his entry into Hip Hop. From cautionary insights shared by JAY-Z on his debut album to outright hostility towards adversaries in projects like Scorpion, he has carried the burdens of being at the peak for a significant time.
Earlier this year, the “Scary Hours” rapper hinted at a collaborative album with his OVO label mate PARTYNEXTDOOR. While no official release date has been announced, fans are eagerly anticipating its arrival, hoping for a drop around Drake’s birthday later this month.
