Excitement is reaching a fever pitch for a new Kendrick Lamar album, notably due to the acclaim surrounding “Not Like Us” and his recent role as the headliner for the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show.
On Thursday (Oct. 17), ScHoolboy Q appeared to join fellow Top Dawg Entertainment artists SZA and Devin Malik in building the hype for the yet-to-be-confirmed album. Via his Instagram Stories, the “Blank Face” rapper shared Tyler, The Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA cover with the message, “All my friends [are] dropping music, and it makes me happy. Two more [to] go.”
ScHoolboy Q’s statement followed closely after Ab-Soul announced the launch date for his upcoming project, SOUL BURGER, marking one possible contender down. “Too many signs that Kendrick [is] dropping soon,” remarked a Twitter user in response to NFR Podcast’s repost. Another user conjectured, “The two more are [ASAP] Rocky and Kendrick.”
In September, Lamar surprised fans by unveiling a track that is being referred to as “Watch The Party Die” on his Instagram. Furthermore, it should be noted that another unreleased song was teased earlier this July in the video for “Not Like Us.” Regardless, it appears that the dedicated fans of the Compton rapper might have to hold tight until he takes the stage at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome in February 2025 for the confirmation.
This year has proven to be quite active for TDE. ScHoolboy Q’s BLUE LIPS was released in March featuring collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, Rico Nasty, AzChike, Ab-Soul, Lance Skiiiwalker, Malik, Jozzy, and Childish Major. Noteworthy tracks included “THank god 4 me,” “Yeern 101,” and “oHio,” among others.
“[The] album [has] been ready for ages, to be honest… I just struggled with where I would fit in this circus of nonsense and algorithms, so I opted for a path focused on artistry,” explained ScHoolboy Q regarding the LP. “I’m [too] good to squander my talent for the sake of a viral moment… I’m 37 but still driven. Honestly, I doubt anyone can f**k [with] me, to tell you the truth.”
In other news, Doechii and new artist Alemeda released their respective albums: Alligator Bites Never Heal in August and FK IT in September.
