The excitement for a new Kendrick Lamar album is at its peak, particularly following the triumph of “Not Like Us” and the announcement of his headline act at the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show.
On Thursday (Oct. 17), ScHoolboy Q appeared to join fellow Top Dawg Entertainment members SZA and Devin Malik in building the hype for the unconfirmed album. Utilizing his Instagram Stories, the “Blank Face” artist reposted Tyler, The Creator’s CHROMAKOPIA album cover, captioning it with, “All my friends [are] releasing music, and it brings me joy. Two more [to] go.”
ScHoolboy Q’s update followed shortly after Ab-Soul disclosed the release date for his upcoming project, SOUL BURGER, eliminating one potential contender. “Too many hints that Kendrick [is] dropping soon,” commented a Twitter user beneath NFR Podcast’s repost. Another user speculated, “The two more are [ASAP] Rocky and Kendrick.”
In September, Lamar unexpectedly unveiled a track labeled “Watch The Party Die” on Instagram. Additionally, it’s notable that yet another unreleased song was hinted at during the early July video for “Not Like Us.” Regardless, it appears that the Compton MC’s devoted fans might have to wait until his performance at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome in February 2025 for clarity.
This year has been bustling for TDE, to put it mildly. ScHoolboy Q’s BLUE LIPS debuted in March, featuring collaborations with Freddie Gibbs, Rico Nasty, AzChike, Ab-Soul, Lance Skiiiwalker, Malik, Jozzy, and Childish Major. Noteworthy tracks included “THank god 4 me,” “Yeern 101,” and “oHio,” among others.
“[The] album [has] been completed for years, honestly… I just wasn’t certain where I would fit into this chaotic realm of nonsense and algorithms, so I chose to focus on my artistry,” ScHoolboy Q shared regarding the LP. “I’m [too] talented to let my abilities go to waste chasing a viral moment… I’m 37 and still driven. Frankly, I don’t believe anyone can compete with me, to be honest.”
In the meantime, Doechii and newly signed Alemeda launched their respective projects: Alligator Bites Never Heal in August and FK IT in September.
