Advance voting for the 2024 presidential election commenced earlier this week, with local electoral offices in states including Minnesota and Virginia now operational. Donald Trump is set to compete against Democratic nominee Kamala Harris, who stepped up after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July.
This past Saturday (Sept. 21), GloRilla, one of the latest artists to release new music, faced backlash for promoting her inaugural album during the election period. One critic on Twitter remarked, “You’re vibing to GloRilla while our nation is on the line! Please step away from your phone and go register to vote! Don’t allow social media to influence you! Conduct your research!!”
She quickly responded with a quote-tweet: “[What the heck]? How [did] I become part of this?” Although the Memphis artist hasn’t officially backed anyone, unlike her “Wanna Be” collaborator Megan Thee Stallion, she did meet with Biden and Harris earlier this year.
At a Women’s History Month event hosted by the White House, GloRilla discovered that Biden is familiar with the lyrics to “Yeah Glo!” In a video posted on her Instagram, the Grammy nominee exclaimed, “Yeah, Joe!” to which he humorously responded, “Well, not ‘Joe.’ Yeah you!”
GloRilla’s mother even commented on the episode. “Your talent is opening doors for you, placing you in the company of greatness, or in your case, presidents! Girl, you’ve truly given me reasons to brag!” she shared on Instagram.
The CMG artist is set to unveil GLORIOUS on October 11. The 15-track album will feature the Rihanna-approved “TGIF” along with “Hollon,” which was released on Friday (Sept. 20). Notably, this album will be GloRilla’s second release within the span of less than a year, following the launch of Ehhthang Ehhthang in April.
“H**, you must not realize what you’ve ignited/ Me and my girls go wild/ Don’t give a f**k about this gathering,” she rapped in the new song. “We gon’ keep pushing forward, regardless/ Get my crew, take that b**ch, and now question the charges/ Creating music, taking down b**ches, I be truly marching.”
