On Sunday (September 29), Halle Bailey graced the stage at Kamala Harris’ fundraising event in Los Angeles, joining a remarkable roster of performers. The talented singer and actress delivered a heartfelt performance of “Angel,” marking her first solo release.

“Some may criticize, and they anticipate your downfall. They’re unaware of the grace that accompanies it all,” Bailey shared on Instagram, referencing the bridge of her song. She further conveyed her appreciation for the Vice President: “OMG, OMG, pinch me. I just flew in from Paris to perform for our wonderful vice president, [Kamala Harris]. Thank you so much for having me. It was a true honor to sing today.”

Together with a video of her performance, the Grammy-nominated artist posted a clip of her and Harris sharing a heartfelt hug. Take a look below.

“Angel” came to life amid the pervasive racism and negativity Bailey faced leading up to the release of 2023’s live-action The Little Mermaid. “I was adjusting to being under the spotlight, figuring out how to hold my head high and disregard the hurtful comments tied to racist backlash,” she shared with Cosmopolitan.

“This song serves as a love letter to myself and to all the Black girls and women worldwide who have ever felt out of place, burdened by the multitude of opinions concerning their identity and where they fit in,” the mother of one added.

As reported by Deadline, Harris’ fundraising event in Los Angeles generated over $28 million. With ticket prices ranging from $500 to $250,000, the venue was filled with approximately 1,500 attendees. While some distinguished guests enjoyed private photo opportunities with the VP, the attendees also listened to remarks from notable speakers like Sterling K. Brown and Keegan-Michael Key.

Bailey’s endorsement for Harris comes as no surprise, given that her mentor Beyoncé’s track “Freedom” has been prominently featured during various speeches and promotional activities for the Harris-Walz campaign.
