Jenna Fischer expresses her gratitude for life, sharing insights from her experience battling breast cancer, which has helped her disregard the minor irritations of urban living.
The actress from “The Office” appeared on the “Today” show on Monday, joining Hoda Kotb to speak about her breast cancer journey and its profound effects on her life.
In her earlier update this month, Jenna revealed she had been diagnosed with an unusual and aggressive variant of breast cancer, stating that “the essential elements became evident almost immediately” following her shocking diagnosis.
She elaborated… “I perceive the world as an exquisite place, rich in its eccentricities. Even the elements that once annoyed me now occasionally seem endearing.”
For example, she now sees the notorious traffic in Los Angeles as merely “charming.”

However, her positive perspective was not immediate… Jenna confessed that she found her medical examinations initially frustrating, referring to her routine mammogram as “irksome.”
Now, Jenna feels incredibly thankful for keeping her annual check-up… recounting how she discovered her cancer diagnosis while reviewing her medical portal during a hike.
She continued to describe, “That’s when I encountered terms like, ‘invasive,’ ‘ductal,’ ‘carcinoma,’ ‘malignant.’ I thought to myself, ‘Those terms sound like they belong to a cancer context.’
Subsequently, Jenna underwent a lumpectomy in January, followed by 12 rounds of chemotherapy and 3 weeks of radiation therapy. She candidly shared her initial fears about hair loss, mentioning how she would style her hair to mask her bald spot during treatment.
She is currently continuing with her infusion therapy, which is projected to extend until February of next year.
