Kid Cudi is set to join the cast of Happy Gilmore 2. On Friday (Oct. 25), the Ohio-born artist announced his new role in the Adam Sandler-fronted sequel, although no release date has been confirmed yet.
“I’ve been wanting to share this for a while!!! This is unbelievably massive,” Cudi expressed on social media. “It has always been a dream for me to collaborate with Adam. He’s my favorite, and his films along with his humor shaped my youth. Another dream fulfilled. I feel so grateful!! Prepare yourselves, this one’s going to be legendary.”
Similar to the film’s plot, the specifics of the “Day ‘n’ Nite” artist’s role remains under wraps. Nevertheless, Julie Bowen and Christopher McDonald are confirmed to reprise their roles as Virginia Venit and Shooter McGavin, while Bad Bunny will also make an appearance. Dennis Dugan, who directed the original Happy Gilmore, is set to be the executive producer for the follow-up.
In August, Cudi took on the role of The Thinker in M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller, Trap. Before that, he lent his voice to Agent Mason in the Paramount+ animated show “Knuckles.” The artist called this role a “dream realized” during his interview with theGrio.
“The young Scott within me, around 10 or 11 years old, was ecstatic,” he shared with the outlet. “I think occasionally in this industry, you have moments that make you go, ‘Wow, this is truly an amazing experience.’ I’m part of something significant.”
On the music front, Cudi released INSANO in January, featuring tracks such as “GET OFF ME,” “AT THE PARTY,” and “MOST AIN’T DENNIS.” Notable contributions came from artists like ASAP Rocky, Lil Yachty, XXXTENTACION, Pharrell Williams, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, and Travis Scott. He had planned a tour to promote the album but sadly sustained a foot injury at Coachella.
