On Thursday (Oct. 24), Lil Durk was apprehended by U.S. Marshals in Broward County, Florida, faced with a murder-for-hire allegation.
According to records from the Broward Sheriff’s Office, the “Make It Out” rapper remains incarcerated and is being held with no bond. Durk’s capture occurred mere hours after five other individuals from Chicago, all affiliated with his Only The Family (OTF) group, were charged. Kavon London Grant, Deandre Dontrell Wilson, Keith Jones, David Brian Lindsey, and Asa Houston are accused of conspiracy for murder-for-hire and executing murder-for-hire, as reported by the Chicago Tribune.
These accusations are linked to the 2022 slaying of Quando Rondo’s relative, Lul Pab — whose real name is Saviay’a Robinson — in Los Angeles. Authorities suspect that the shooting was motivated by revenge for King Von’s assassination.
Importantly, the deceased rapper was shot and killed in 2020 following an altercation with Rondo and his associates. The murder indictment against the Life B4 Fame collaborator, Timothy “Lul Timm” Leeks, was dismissed in 2023.
The timing of Durk’s apprehension is rather dramatic, particularly as he was recently conferred with keys to the city from the Village of Broadview and the Village of Bellwood in Illinois earlier this month.
The Grammy-winning artist is in the midst of promoting his forthcoming studio album, Deep Thoughts. Initially set for release on Oct. 18, it has now been delayed to Nov. 22. At this juncture, it remains uncertain whether it will face further postponement. Another Chicago artist, Polo G postponed HOOD POET for nearly a year following his own legal issues in 2023.
Deep Thoughts currently includes pre-released tracks like “Turn Up A Notch,” “Monitoring Me,” “Late Checkout” featuring Hunxho, and “Opportunist.” This LP is intended as a sequel to 2023’s Almost Healed, which featured collaborations with notable artists such as J. Cole, Alicia Keys, Juice WRLD, and numerous other prominent figures in the music industry.
