Lucky Daye is celebrated for his velvety R&B melodies and his remarkable skills as a lyricist. On Sunday morning (Oct. 13), he stirred conversations by sharing his insights on the support artists extend to one another within the music scene.

In a recent tweet, he expressed, “I dislike that female [artists] back each other significantly more than males do. I’m somewhat sad about it. Yet, I [want to] collaborate [with] more gents who aren’t easily offended. Think expansive!” This prompted numerous individuals in the comments to suggest artists they would love to see him team up with in the future.

This viewpoint from the “Roll Some Mo” artist is quite unexpected as he is often recognized for his cooperative spirit. His 2021 release, Table For Two, aimed to highlight women artists within the music industry. The album featured only female artists, including Mahalia, Ari Lennox, Queen Naija, Joyce Wrice, among others.

A fan remarked, “It’s certainly doable. You just need to collaborate with individuals who share a similar mindset and are in the same league as you. Anything beyond your rank will inevitably be perceived as ‘competition.’” Another candidate said, “That’s why you should collaborate with Bryson Tiller!!! Daniel Caesar!!”

Daye stands as one of the prominent figures in the R&B realm. Artists like Leon Thomas, Bryson Tiller, October London, Mario, and Chris Brown have been sustaining the genre for a considerable time. Emerging talents like Isaiah Falls, Trevor Jackson, Jordan Ward, Joony, and more are playing a significant role in the evolution of this romantic genre.

While it’s true that greater collaboration among male R&B artists is needed, Daye’s remarks overlook the pressures that female artists face, as both sides have been embroiled in controversies this year. Conflicts such as Megan Thee Stallion vs. Nick Minaj, Ice Spice vs. Latto, or Cardi B vs. BIA demonstrate the tensions present across the board.

Recently, fans of Daye criticized Mario after he dropped a song that seemingly echoed the elements that contributed to Daye’s fame. Check out the video for Mario’s latest track below!
