Matty Healy Reflects on Relationship Themes Following Taylor Swift Breakup

Matty Healy appears to have some “Bad Blood” with Taylor Swift and her admirers after a revealing interview … where he seemingly took a jab at the pop icon and their “casual” relationship.

The 1975 vocalist shared insights about his forthcoming music during a recent guest spot on the “Doomscroll Podcast” … suggesting that he won’t revisit his brief romance with Taylor in his lyrics.

Check out the segment … While Matty never directly mentioned Taylor during the conversation, he did comment on becoming “a way more recognized public figure” recently … but the British artist remarked he’s “just not keen” on crafting songs about his “casual romantic entanglements.”

It’s reasonable to believe Matty is alluding to his former relationship here, especially since Taylor penned numerous tracks about him on her 11th studio album, “The Tortured Poets Department.”

Upon its release, fans speculated that the album drew inspiration from Taylor’s lengthy 6-year romance with actor Joe Alwyn … who parted ways with the singer in April 2023. Shortly after Taylor and Joe’s breakup became public, the Grammy winner was associated with Matty … yet their romance quickly dwindled by June 2023.

The connection made quite an impact on Taylor, as it appears she wrote “But Daddy I Love Him,” “Guilty As Sin?,” “Down Bad,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can),” and the title track, “The Tortured Poets Department” in response to her feelings from their time together.

While Taylor undoubtedly benefitted from their brief romance, setting multiple records with ‘TTPD,’ Matty expressed his desire to create “art pop” that delves into “themes that genuinely captivate me.”

He elaborated … “Undoubtedly, there will be a few love tracks included. However, I’m not in the realm of, ‘Did you catch what unfolded? Here’s my take on it,’ type of narrative. I believe that’s something other artists might pursue.”
