Megan Thee Stallion is guiding her audience through the highs and lows in her forthcoming documentary, Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words. On Wednesday (Oct. 16), the Houston sensation shared her reflections on the loss of her mother and the relentless criticism she faced after being shot by Tory Lanez in the film’s debut trailer.

“I’ve made the choice to cancel all of my shows. I’m not enjoying myself right now, and I don’t want to proceed. I wonder how I can be Megan Thee Stallion while not having any fun?” the Grammy-winning artist expressed in the video.

“Music has perpetually been a part of my existence. My journey wouldn’t have been possible without my mom. She was like a fierce rapper. I envisioned, ‘When I grow older, I genuinely want to be like her.’ That’s when I truly began to mold Megan Thee Stallion,” she recounted, revealing her motivation to pick up a mic. “Those were my happiest moments, and then, my mama, she just left this world.”

“I’m in pieces. I feel as if I’ve lost touch with who I am, and when life spiraled out of control, I didn’t have her by my side,” the rapper added. Her mother, Holly Thomas, who also managed her career, succumbed to brain cancer in 2019. To honor the memory of both her parents—her father, Joseph Pete Jr., passed away when she was just 15—she established the Pete and Thomas Foundation.

Additionally, the artist behind Traumazine reflected on the 2020 altercation with Lanez, who was sentenced to 10 years in prison for offenses including assault with a semiautomatic firearm, possession of an unregistered loaded weapon in a vehicle, and negligent firearm discharge.

“The shooting. The treachery. I became excessively absorbed in social media. Everyone seems to despise me. I experienced a genuine meltdown,” she elaborated. “I believe Megan Thee Stallion is attempting to guard Megan Pete, and it’s that moment in the movie where I rise up and take action.”
