Method Man got candid during his stint on “Drink Champs” at 2024 REVOLT WORLD, addressing a longstanding discussion in Hip Hop: the assertion that rap is primarily a “young man’s game.” He didn’t mince words, stating that while the industry has consistently favored the youth, many veteran artists continue to make significant contributions.
“This has perpetually been a young person’s game… You can’t fault them for that,” Method Man acknowledged, recognizing the truth that Hip Hop experiences continuous evolution through fresh talent. Nevertheless, he swiftly emphasized that numerous OGs remain impactful, challenging the belief that aging equates to dwindling relevance. “Some of those individuals who emerged from the earlier days are still making waves… The senior artists have been rocking arenas with togetherness. A multitude of us united, and that phenomenon is astonishing to me,” he elaborated.
What resonated was his view on how seasoned artists are not only filling venues but are also championing their generation in ways that significantly influence the scene. Indeed, younger rappers attract substantial crowds, but the solidarity among the older generation fosters unforgettable moments that deserve recognition. Method Man is tapping into a sentiment that’s been percolating for a while — while Hip Hop may favor the young, the veterans still possess the ability to unite people and create a lasting impact.

According to Method Man, the friction between older and emerging artists isn’t solely instigated by industry executives — it derives from within the community. “It’s originating from our own, the individuals surrounding us because they are already affected by your accomplishments, which is absurd,” the iconic figure expressed. He alluded to the internal strife, where those close to artists might inadvertently hinder progress by not wanting to witness others succeed.
