Mustard achieved his maiden No. 1 as a producer with what can be considered one of the most significant tracks of the year, Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us.”

In a discussion with Billboard on Tuesday (Oct. 8), the music creator reflected on his contribution to the track and shared his thoughts on witnessing it performed at the Super Bowl LIX. “This [upcoming] year will be extraordinary. I’m so eager. I might even shed a tear,” Mustard expressed. “If he performs [‘Not Like Us’] solo on stage and doesn’t call me, I wouldn’t be bothered at all. Just perform it!”

“The most challenging aspect of this entire journey is securing the song’s placement; I’ve already triumphed in that regard. I couldn’t ask for anything more. That’s just the icing on the cake,” he continued.

As previously reported by Rap-Up, Lamar is set to headline the Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans on Feb. 9, 2025. This announcement has sparked a divide among Hip Hop aficionados, with many arguing that Lil Wayne should have been given the chance instead.

Mustard earlier mentioned that he crafted the instrumental for “Not Like Us” in just 30 minutes—and astonishingly, he didn’t hear the track until it was released on streaming platforms in May, just like the rest of the world. “I was unaware he was going to elevate that beat in such a way,” the producer recounted.

In a different part of his interview with Billboard, Mustard disclosed, “I’ve never participated in a session with him, but I distinctly remember being at a To Pimp a Butterfly session. I was there because Terrace Martin invited me. I recall witnessing everything happening and thinking, ‘Wow, there’s so much going on.’ In my sessions with YG, we didn’t have that many musicians present. That was my first exposure to something that intense.”

Mustard’s Faith Of A Mustard Seed dropped on streaming services in July, featuring collaborations from Blxst, Future, Kodak Black, Lil Durk, and Young Thug, among many others. Despite the star-studded lineup, the album only achieved 18,000 album-equivalent units in sales.
