On Tuesday, President Joe Biden expressed fierce disapproval concerning former President Donald Trump‘s followers, particularly comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who recently sparked controversy with a remark referring to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of garbage.”
Biden stated in a video released Tuesday, “Donald Trump lacks decency. He shows no concern for the Latino community… Did a speaker at his event really describe Puerto Rico as a floating island of waste? The only waste I can observe floating around here is his supporters.”

A spokesperson from the White House later stated to NBC News reporter Gabe Gutierrez that Biden was specifically addressing Hinchcliffe and not all of Trump’s supporters.
As noted, Hinchcliffe’s comments on Puerto Rico emerged during Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City this past weekend.

In response to Biden’s comments, Trump’s campaign spokesperson Steven Cheung tweeted, “2016: ‘Basket of deplorables’ 2024: ‘Garbage… supporters.’ Kamala and Biden have disdain for Americans and will do everything in their capacity to suppress us if they’re ever in power again.”
