President Joe Biden expressed his disapproval on Tuesday regarding comments made by former President Donald Trump‘s supporter, comedian Tony Hinchcliffe, who recently sparked outrage with a remark referring to Puerto Rico as a “floating island of trash.”
In a video released Tuesday, Biden declared, “Donald Trump lacks integrity. He seems indifferent to the Latino community… just the other day, a member at his rally referred to Puerto Rico as a floating island of trash? … The only trash I see out there is his supporters.”

A representative from the White House later informed NBC News journalist Gabe Gutierrez that Biden was specifically addressing Hinchcliffe’s remarks, not condemning Trump’s supporters in general.
As you’re aware, Hinchcliffe made those controversial statements about Puerto Rico during Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City this past weekend.
A representative from the White House affirms that Pres. Biden was referring to the comedian who supported Trump and insulted Puerto Rico. https://t.co/dQ8DSg2kKE

Trump’s campaign spokesman Steven Cheung replied to Biden’s remarks on platform X, stating, “2016: ‘Basket of deplorables’ 2024: ‘Trash… supporters.’ Kamala and Biden DISDAIN Americans and will do everything to suppress us if they ever regain power.”

We have reached out to Hinchcliffe for his thoughts… but have yet to receive a response.
