Primus is on the lookout for a new drummer after Tim Alexander unexpectedly departed from the hard rock band, notifying his fellow members through digital correspondence.
The band revealed on Tuesday that Tim’s resignation from Primus was “effective immediately,” following an email he sent to founding members Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde.
Primus stated they were taken aback when Tim made the decision to leave, mentioning that he went silent afterward, apart from a singular reply where he expressed he had “lost his enthusiasm for playing.”
Tim originally joined Primus back in 1989, although he took a seven-year break starting in 1996 before making a comeback.
The band’s most iconic track was the 1993 hit “My Name is Mud,” and Primus also composed the original theme for “South Park.”
Les and Larry expressed their regret at losing Tim but acknowledge his decision, stating that the band still intends to perform on December 31 for a New Year’s Eve concert at the Fox Theater in Oakland, albeit without Tim.
Tim underwent open heart surgery back in 2014, but it appears health issues are not a concern in his recent departure.
