NBC Sports Boston / Felger & Mazz
Tony Massarotti — a prominent radio host who faced suspension last year due to an offensive joke targeting Black individuals — is in hot water once more … after he inadvertently uttered a racial slur during a live broadcast.
The recent gaffe occurred in Wednesday’s installment of “Felger & Mazz” — a popular Boston afternoon show — when Massarotti was sharing his concerns about Generation Z with cohost Michael Felger.
The ex-Boston Globe sports columnist claimed he believed the “Z” in Gen Z represented “z*****head” — a derogatory term used to insult individuals of Asian heritage.
Felger chuckled, albeit awkwardly, at the comment … yet, the discussion moved on without further questioning of the statement.
Shortly after, users on social media clamored for Massarotti’s dismissal — emphasizing this marks the second instance in the past year where he has made racially insensitive comments on-air.
If you missed it, back in February 2023, he warned Felger about two Black men seated behind him, stating, “Because the last time you were around a couple of guys like that, they stole your car.”
He later issued an apology claiming that he was merely attempting to “joke around” with Felger, who had reported a car theft incident in New Orleans just weeks earlier.
Despite his explanation, Massarotti was suspended for the rest of the week without pay.
As of now, both Massarotti and the executives of 98.5 The Sports Hub have remained silent regarding his latest blunder.
